We’re somewhat sad to think the 42nd Montreux Jazz Festival will be ending tomorrow. It’s been fantastic in so many ways…..music, mixing, natural beauty….but mostly because of the terrific people we’ve met. We hope we’ll see them all again soon.

Our friend Bill Fertig came through mixing Katie Melua. We’ve held back from talking about good mixes because there have been so many, but Bill deserves an attaboy for his efforts last night. He’s a helluva guy too. 

If there was an award this man would have won it

We must also give special mention to our good friends who worked the Seafood Bar. They were very accommodating, staying until our guests were ready to go home. Always cheerful, always hard working, always our friends. We must remember to buy them a drink sometime.

We were fortunate enough to be invited to an after-hours raclette party with the Niveau 2 guys. Jose used the heating device which belonged to his grandmother. He obviously acquired her cooking skills as well.

There was more talent on stage than almost could be imagined. Patti Austin, Herbie Hancock, Mick Hucknall, Patrice Rushen, Lee Ritenour, Al Jarreau, Chaka Kahn, Freda Payne, Joe Sample, Billy Cobham…..the list goes on. The Swiss Army Big Band was an integral part of the show. There’s no word if they used their knives….but they sure played their horns!

Quincy Jones was very appreciative of many people in his long and varied life. He spoke from the heart as he mentioned them by name. The show was a special event and the highlight of the Festival.

John and Helen Meyer dropped into the hospitality room again and visited with several guests. They are always fun to hang out with. Any conversation with John is sure be entertaining and informative!

Faye and Randy Bauske visit from Honolulu!

Randy and Faye Bauske brought some killer Kona coffee all the way from Hawaii. The beans are dark, oily and “strong like bull.” They’re yummy, too! Faye was kind enough to apply her talents to fixing Paul’s muscle knots and constricted sinuses. No wonder Randy looks so healthy. Randy has been THE source for Meyer Sound in Hawaii for well over twenty years, making events there sound spectacular. He’s pretty smart too.

Joe Sample and Buford Jones

It was an absolute pleasure to see again not only one of the most outstanding musicians on the planet but one of the best human beings we’ve ever been fortunate enough to meet and work with, Joe Sample. His performance tonight was stunning!
